Stream blue planet 3k2/7/2024 “ Blue Planet II is the first programme we’ve shown in such high quality and perfectly demonstrates how the BBC is pushing the boundaries of digital innovation,” Matthew Postgate, chief technology and product officer for the BBC’s design and engineering team says. The BBC does note that the ‘vast majority’ will, however. Sets from Panasonic, LG, Philips, Hisense, Sony, and Roku, are listed as compatible with the 4K stream, although not all will support HLG. In fact, there are around 400 TVs that are capable of enjoying the new release of Blue Planet II. Thankfully, there are now far more TVs that fit this description than there were when Planet Earth II was released in 4K HDR. In order to watch Blue Planet II in 4K HDR, users will need to own a TV that will support the hybrid log gamma (HLG) HDR format, while also being 4K compatible. But how exactly do you watch Blue Planet II in 4K HDR? Remember: most diving watches are able to go deeper than humans themselves can go, so you should, invariably, be fine in most scenarios.Following the release of Planet Earth II in 4K HDR, the BBC has confirmed that Blue Planet II will also be made available in the immersive formats. What you can rely on, however, is that if you use your dive watch (resistant, as we know, to a minimum of 100-metre depth) for recreational swimming, you shouldn’t have a problem (although try and avoid the bath or shower, where excessive humidity can present problems of their own). Take them any depth below that and not only will your watch not be water-resistant, but it will be broken. Are dive watches actually waterproof?ĭive watches are always only water-resistant to the depth stipulated on the watch. Other key characteristics include a screw-in crown and case-back finished with rubber seals, and an extra-thick crystal (occasionally domed) to deal with all the extra pressure. If your dive watch is particularly fancy, you may also have a built-in depth sensor. This builds up as divers go deeper underwater. Another useful thing to have is a helium escape valve, which allows for the safe release of potentially damaging helium in the watch. What’s more, the watch should be finished with luminous hands and indices in order to make them both readable at depth. Your dive watch will most likely also feature a long rubber strap, making it both suitable for underwater use and for wear over a wetsuit. Firstly, most dive watches will feature a rotating bezel, which allows the diver to easily measure elapsed time. There are many characteristics that define a true dive watch. Which characteristics define a dive watch? Those at the shallower end of the dive spectrum should be used for more recreational scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming, while technical divers will require something with greater resistance. Where most dive-ready timepieces these days will be able to reach minimum depths of 200-300 metres, some can go as deep as 20,000 feet below the surface of the sea – the CX Swiss Military Watch being a case in point. Technically speaking, a dive watch is a timepiece that can withstand a minimum water-resistance of 10 atm (the equivalent of around 100 metres). Though the vast majority of dive watches have now been superseded in functionality by dive computers, dive watches were originally used by divers to calculate the amount of time spent underwater – important when you’re dealing with oxygen tanks with limited supply. Here, to help you investigate, whatever your reason for opting into the dive watch trend, is our ultimate guide to what you need to look for, what you should (and shouldn’t) be buying, and any other deep, pressing questions you might be fathoming – like what characteristics define a dive watch.

Proust remembrance of things past2/7/2024 LEVIN: I'm afraid that he made it all up. There is no madeleine with a reasonable recipe that behaves the way Proust says.ĬHADWICK: Edmund, you're talking about a writer who his entire career rests upon his ability to evoke tides of memory from small little stimuli, and you're saying he's lying about the stimuli? So my shocking conclusion is that Proust's madeleine could not have existed. I left them outside for three, four days, and I tried to dip them and I still got very few crumbs. LEVIN: Well, I tried leaving it out-it was kind of a heartless act I felt, but I made some madeleines. So what is your conclusion about Proust's legendary madeleine? Where do you come to here? Was it just stale? That could even mean that it was stale.ĬHADWICK: OK. LEVIN: Basic food science tells you that a madeleine that would behave like that would be drier, would have less butter, less eggs. Now the funny thing is when I started researching this, I thought, `Well, somebody must have tried to figure out what kind of madeleine would do this.' And to my surprise, I found that no one had taken the time and the effort to research this really utterly trivial question to find out exactly what the recipe would be to create a Proustian madeleine.ĬHADWICK: And how did you do? How did you go about that? What Proust's passage suggests is that the madeleine should kind of disintegrate a little bit in the tea. LEVIN: It is crumb-deficient because it is apparently not dry and crumbly enough. There are no crumbs in the spoon when you take your typical madeleine and soak a piece of it in the tea.ĬHADWICK: What is wrong with this madeleine that it is crumb-deficient? LEVIN: Well, you have the makings of an investigative food writer because that's the whole problem. LEVIN: And then to stir it a little bit and than what Proust describes is that the narrator then scoops out a spoonful of tea and there should be, according to the passage, crumbs in the spoon, and that's where the whole problem and mystery lies.ĬHADWICK: I have to say there are no crumbs in this spoon. and then you should break off, I'd say, about a third of it.ĬHADWICK: I note that this is a rather-well, it doesn't snap apart. Well, first, you should get into an appropriately pensive mood. And tell me what I should do to re-create Proust's epiphany. So now I have in front of me a cup of tea and a spoon and a madeleine this is one that we bought at Starbucks. An exquisite pleasure invaded my senses.'ĬHADWICK: And from this moment, all these memories flow out because this moment is so magical. No sooner had the warm liquid mixed with the crumbs touched my palate than a shudder ran through me and I stopped, intent upon the extraordinary thing that was happening to me. `I raised to my lips a spoonful of the tea in which I had soaked a morsel of the cake. This is the cookie known as a madeleine, a shell-shaped confection that inspired French author Marcel Proust's legendary flood of memories in his work "Remembrance of Things Past." Our literary sleuth is Slate contributor and food writer Edmund Levin.Įdmund, welcome to DAY TO DAY and remind us exactly what Proust did with this madeleine and why there is a question about this cookie.ĮDMUND LEVIN (Slate): Well, in "Remembrance of Things Past" which is a 3,000-page novel, there is a scene in the book where the narrator, who is a fictionalized Marcel Proust, dips this madeleine in some tea, and the spoonful of tea mixed with crumbs is kind of the point where the novel reaches escape velocity and he has this flood of memories that spark the whole rest of the novel.ĬHADWICK: Read us just that passage, will you? Our partners at Slate magazine have published a piece that delves into one of the great literary mysteries of all time: how the cookie crumbles. Now with the results of a unique exercise in investigative reporting.

Starsector redacted fleet2/7/2024 Now it might be a good idea to give up control of the points completely, regroup your fleet and get to work. Deploy the rest of your forces, or what you can more exactly. With some luck you should get the max DP you can. They might get distracted on the way, but it's less likely because it's your control points. Let the Ziggurat, Radiant and Aurora capture the other two points. The AI Hyperion is very prone to their signature move "nothing personnel kid" AKA teleporting behind ships and moving FROM the point thus losing control before it's captured and then not being able to regain control because the enemy is now on the point. Unfortunately, there is no "capture point at all cost" command. You must do this by hand! Since it's their point they will contest it before you manage to capture. The strategy is: deploy IN the Hyperion and teleport to their far point. Triple S-Mod Ziggurat piloted by YOU with relevant combat skills, most importantly Phase Mastery.īetween four and six Triple S-Mod Auroras with good officers with relevant skills. Your own triple S-Mod integrated Alpha AI Radiant. This is by far the hardest content in the game. Also probably get more game experience before you try doing this. If you are not sure, follow the loadout guide pinned on the forum. The specific loadout is not that important. There are probably lost of way to beat them now that I have identified the problems. This is just what I have been using and it's probably not optimal. I have not tested every ship or strategy. This will lead to the fun, balanced chain of events describe above. If you lose a ship now you won't be able to replace it. Don't try to contest point, because at this point Radiant are catching up and they are very prone to oneshoting ships. Then it might be a good idea to regroup all your forces in the back with a defend order on a waypoint. You only need to capture the points for a second. No ship is good enough to overcome that in vanilla. And even if you have 50 Auroras, they would all get grinded down by the 80 DP difference. So, you will lose your DP then lose ships and then not be able to redeploy reinforcements, then not be able to retake points, since you are outnumbered, and then you will get overwhelmed and die. However, you can't maintain control of points on their side of the map. If they AI messes up or if it's quintuple Tachyon Lance Radiant, henceforth refer to as a Big Boy, you will might lose ships. Let's say you get lucky, and you even it out. You start with 160 DP! Two Radiants worth of difference. You might be wondering why does DP matter if you can nearly even it out? Well! They will have 240 DP ALWAYS! It's not conditional by control points like your DP is. It's a massive deal when you are fighting actually good ships with great officers. This is best case scenario and is unlikely to happen and you will usually be fighting versus a 20 DP or 40 DP disadvantage. This can even it out at 240 DP vs 240 DP, on 400 battle size. You MUST capture at least two points to even have a chance. Since the officer changes the AI will always have 60% DP. You will at the start always be outnumbered. Forget about bringing ECM packages with you. You will always be under the 10% range ECM penalty unless you won already. I would not call any ships extremely strong, except the Radiant, but they are all at least good, most are great. I would describe all Remnant ships as capable. You will find the AI more than happy to tank kinetic damage on its armor if you bring insufficient HE. The Radiant has basically the same armor profile as an Onslaught. Big Remnant fleet are characterized by having more "officers" than you, and by extension always 60% DP. Here are the important thing to know in no particular order. What follows are tips and general pitfalls if someone is interested. I will write what I have personally experienced while fighting them. I see people are still posting here and some are posting misinformation. Since I started a topic asking about Remnants, I have killed a lot of Remnant fleets.

William smith actor nose2/6/2024 To say nothing, of course, for the film’s increasingly audacious animation style. Watching Miles Morales reject this concept, knowingly, and fly directly in the face of superhero storytelling in its most primal form, is exciting and liberating for the film and the genre. “Across the Spider-Verse” insidiously places those ethical dilemmas within a gigantic existential framework, wherein sacrifices aren’t just tragic, they’re obligations. To save many lives by sacrificing a few, to jeopardize safety in pursuit of principle. Spider-Man, and lots of other great (and not-so-great) superheroes, have been forced to make nearly impossible choices over the years. The leader of the Spider-Men, Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), aka Spider-Man 2099, believes all their existences are defined by the deaths of innocent people around them. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” doesn’t just tell a Spider-Man story, it takes the whole Spider-Man formula - a chance encounter with a radioactive spider, plus tragedy, equals hero - and transforms it into an oppressive, morally questionable dogma. On the other, the multiverse theoretically robs any story of its significance, because no matter how engrossing or dramatic one tale is, somewhere else it happened a completely different way. On one hand, it allows for shameless fan service team-ups between characters that otherwise have no business meeting each other. It’s extremely odd that the concept of a multiverse - a series of infinite dimensions, where anything that ever could have happened actually did, at least somewhere - has picked up so much steam in mainstream popular culture. Cameos abound, some fleeting, some practically yelling “Look at me! Look at me! I was in that thing!” in the center frame. They’re all working overtime to fix the tear in space and time Miles thought he’d repaired in “Into the Spider-Verse,” which is currently sending random characters and villains across the multiverse. Meanwhile, Miles and Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) reunite, and it turns out Spider-Gwen is now part of a gang of interdimensional spider-persons. This sends him soaring from one dimension to another, on a quest to become more than just a random oddity. But while he begins the film as a genuinely pathetic creature, awkwardly turning to crime after a bizarre accident rendered him unemployable, a chance encounter with Spider-Man inspires him to pursue his powers to their fullest potential. Punch him in the face, hit a wall across the street. The villain of Spider-Man’s week, The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), is a scientist whose body is covered in portals. Montage maker video free2/6/2024 However, there is a brilliant set of features built in to help you learn, including around 40 videos to teach you the basics. It is still easy to navigate but feels a bit clunkier. The interface has changed, and is no longer reminiscent of Adobe's Premiere Pro, but is darker and more imposing. The Pro version unlocks everything at $15.99/£15.99 a month, and the Creator version unlocks fewer features at $9.99/£9.99 a month. If you're willing to pay, you can get rid of the watermarks. This isn't unusual, of course, but it does mean pros won't view this software as the viable option it once was, and Da Vinci Resolve is the only real free option for professional videographers. A huge amount of the effects are now watermarked if you are on the free version, across transitions, animation, colour grading and more. The rebrand to Hitfilm includes the introduction of two subscription tiers that, as you'd expect, mean the free version isn't quite all-singing, all dancing, and no-longer a genuine alternative to other paid-for tools. But things have changed somewhat and this software has fallen down our list from number two. To learn more, see our full DaVinci Resolve review.Īnother good choice for professional video editors is Hitfilm (previously Hitfilm Express), which, before the recent update, we would have described as the Swiss Army knife of free video editing software. If that's you, we'd suggest instead looking at entries three to 10 on our list. That said, while that interface is quite straightforward to use for anyone with editing experience, it would be quite a challenge for beginners to learn. All that meant that we didn’t need to ‘do an Adobe’ by jumping around loads of programs to get our perfect video we could do it all within the one interface. We also loved its smart video stabilisation tool, for when you’ve got a shaky shot, and the built-in audio mixing, VFX and title-card-building modes also functioned brilliantly. In our review, we found its colour grading options to be second to none, giving us the ability to fully control the look of our videos. Despite being free, this is a feature-packed powerhouse and really gives paid tools a run for their money in terms of versatility and usefulness. Note that this is not to be confused with DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is a paid version of the same program.ĭaVinci Resolve is made by Blackmagic Design, which also makes a popular family of video cameras, so you know it’s designed for filmmakers. The best free video editing software for professionals right now is DaVinci Resolve. Quick links: best free video editing software trials We've included links to these full reviews below. We checked ease of use, speed and reponsiveness, the power of adjustment, blending and transition features, and video and audio effects. Zimbra desktop upgrade2/6/2024 The news of the transaction was reported on Wednesday by Bloomberg. In connection with the Desktop Metal ( DM) acquisition, Stratasys ( SSYS) extended its shareholder rights plan, and Desktop Metals ( DM) said it plans to adopt a limited duration shareholder rights plan. Stratasys ( SSYS) said its board will review and evaluate the tender offer from Nano Dimension ( NNDM) and will advise holders of its position within the next 10 business days, according to a statement. Separately, on Thursday, Nano Dimension ( NNDM) said it commenced a special tender offer to purchase between 38.8% and 40.8% of the outstanding ordinary shares of Stratasys ( SSYS) for $18.00 per share in cash, according to a statement. The Desktop Metal deal comes after Stratasys ( SSYS) repeatedly rejected takeover offers from rival Nano Dimension ( NASDAQ: NNDM), including a $20.05 a share bid last month, saying the proposals "substantially" undervalued the company. Stratasys and Desktop Metal are expected to generate $1.1 billion in 2025 revenue. The deal is expected to close in Q4, subject to the approval of DM and SSYS holders. Stratasys ( SSYS) shareholders will own approximately 59% of the combined company, and legacy Desktop Metal ( DM) stockholders will own approximately 41% of the combined company. This represents a $1.88 per Desktop Metal Class A share, a 7.4% premium to DM's closing price on Wednesday. It’s cross-platform, available on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
